Guyana first appeared at the Pan Am Games at Chicago 1959, and is currently ranked twenty-third on the all-time Pan Am Games medal list with 18 medals.

At Guadalajara 2011, Guyana sent 19 athletes to compete in five sports: rugby sevens, athletics, taekwondo, swimming and squash. Nicolette Fernandes was the only Guyanese athlete to win a medal, capturing singles bronze in squash.

The Toronto-born Fernandes is expected to compete at TORONTO 2015.
