Canada wins two silver, one bronze in judo competition at Pan Am Games

TORONTO — Canadian judokas won three medals Sunday at the Pan American Games, with Antoine Bouchard and Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard earning silver medals and Arthur Margelidon claiming bronze.

Bouchard of Jonquiere, Que., won silver in the men's 66-kilogram event, beating Fernando Gonzalez of Argentina and Carlos Tondique before losing in the final to Brazil's Charles Chibana.

Despite losing the final, Bouchard was pleased with his performance against one of the world's top judokas.

"The guy is sixth in the world and I am 16th," Bouchard said. "I did not make many mistakes."

Beauchemin-Pinard, of St-Hubert, Que., won silver in women's 57-kg event.

She beat Aliuska Ojeda of Cuba and Rafaela Silva of Brazil before losing to Marti Malloy of the United States.

Montreal's Margelidon won bronze in the men's 73-kg event.

Margelidon lost to Puerto Rico's Augusto Miranda in the quarter-finals before rebounding to beat Brazil's Alex Pombo Silva for bronze.
