Canada's men's, women's racquetball teams settle for bronze at Pan Am Games
TORONTO — Canada settled for a pair of racquetball bronze medals on Saturday, with the men's and women's teams losing to the United States in the semifinal.
The women's team of Winnipeg's Jen Saunders and Montreal's Frederique Lambert lost 2-0 to the Americans. The pair lost a close doubles match before Saunders was defeated 15-2, 15-6 in singles competition by Michelle Key.
In the men's semifinal, Vincent Gagnon of St-Hubert, Que., and Saskatoon's Tim Landeryou lost in the opening doubles match, but Hamilton's Mike Green beat Jake Brendenback 15-6, 15-12 to tie the match at 1-1.
The U.S. clinched the victory when Rocky Carson beat Coby Iwaasa of Lethbridge, Alta., 15-6, 15-14.
Green said he was satisfied with the bronze.
"I think for our team, to do much better would be a big leap at this point with some young guys," he said. "I think its a good result."
